In Iran I’ve met a German guy who is traveling by motorcycle to India. We decided to cross Pakistan together as we felt it was more safe this way. Yesterday we safely arrived in Lahore without too many troubles. I will blog about the experience later but in the meantime here is a short impression about Pakistan.

Iran part 2

Riding from city to city via highways and then checking of every tourist attraction in the city mentioned in the Lonely Planet travel guide was getting a bit exhausting. After a while every mosque starts to look the same. A dome, two minarets and some nicely aligned blue tiles. I decided to shake things up a bit and went out to find Qotrom village. A small desert village a bit outside of Yazd that a fellow Korean traveler had mentioned the night before.

My initial plan was to leave Ankara when I had my passport back but my hosts and I decided it would be fun to stay on Friday too so we could eat and drink together for the last time. I took this opportunity to cook a delicious Dutch meal called hotchpotch for everyone. They said they liked it!

Last friday I applied for my Indian visa at the embassy of India in Ankara. Thursday I can pick up my passport and hit the road again. I’m staying with some great guys whom I met on couchsurfing. One of them is a rider too and made a trip to Azerbaijan and Iran this summer. Their blog is at www.therideabout.com My bike is safely parked in the garage here next to two Aprilia Pegaso 650. Coincedentally these bikes have the same Rotax engine as mine! We did a little maintenance saturday but besides that we’ve been watching movies, going out and playing videogames. I like it! Also I’ve had the time to edit and upload some videos from the last few weeks! Here they are:

The next morning I left the hotel in Bitola and after adjusting my chain tension again I was heading for Greece. At the border I had to show my documents again. 100 meters further was a line of cars all with their hoods open and border police inspecting the cars. One came up to me and after I shutted off my engine he asked me where I was going while looking at the tires on my panniers. Once again I replied with ‘Singapore!’. ‘You going where?!’ he asked and some other guy also joined the conversation. We talked a bit about the trip and I told them about my SPOT GPS tracker and gave them both my namecard. After that I was free to go. Passing all the cars with their hoods open with a grin on my face. That’s how you deal with border

The past few days were a blast. In Dubrovnik, Croatia I’d set my Garmin to Thessaloniki, Greece. Knowing next to nothing about the countries in between I thought I would just race through them to Greece because there isn’t anything to see there anyways or so I thought. But boy was I wrong. I predicted it would take me 2 days. It took me four.
